Wall Marching

Core work you do standing up. Keeping your back on the wall while one knee lifts is harder than it looks.

Wall Marching demonstrated against a wall

Set up

Back against the wall, hands resting lightly on it beside your hips.

How to do it well

  1. 1

Lift the knee without letting your lower back leave the wall.

  2. 2

Slow and controlled — this is core work, not a march.

  3. 3

Alternate sides, and keep the standing leg soft.

The cue you’ll hear most

“Lift the knee without your back leaving the wall.”

The single most common fault on this move — your voice coach calls it out a quarter of the way into every interval.

Make it easier

Lift the heel only, keeping the toe in contact with the floor.

Make it harder

Take the hands off the wall and hold each knee up for two seconds.
