Wall-Supported Reverse Lunge demonstrated against a wall

Set up

Stand side-on to the wall, one hand resting on it, feet under your hips.

How to do it well

  1. 1

Step straight back, not out to the side.

  2. 2

Front knee stays over the ankle, chest tall.

  3. 3

The hand on the wall is for balance, not for holding you up.

The cue you’ll hear most

“Step straight back, not out to the side.”

The single most common fault on this move — your voice coach calls it out a quarter of the way into every interval.

Make it easier

Step back a shorter distance and lower only a few inches.

Make it harder

Take the hand off the wall and hover it, so balance does its own work.
